My dog and I had a terrible experience here. Some staff members and other customers were so rude. My dog is terrified of the vet due to a prior bad experience he had (mistreated/handled at another vet) and was scared to enter the clinic. This incredibly nasty lady laughed and mocked us to the staff on reception because my dog was so scared & didn’t want to enter the consult room. The staff didn’t stop her and just her continue carrying on with nasty comments. No consideration and care was taken for my dog to feel comfortable for this vaccination. I will not be returning.

We take both of our dogs to Balwyn Central Vet Clinic. Over the years we have dealt with the range of vets at the clinic and have been very happy with all our experiences. Very knowledgeable and friendly vets and staff. Have recommended friends to go here with their pets and they have been very happy as well.

This place is the best I’ve ever visited in my life. The care from all the vets and even the receptionists is simply incredible. I’ve never felt more taken care of or more welcome at a vet.
Helpful ReviewThroughout my life with animals we’ve had some bad experiences with vets so when my sister and I got a new kitten each we were looking for a new vet to help take away the trauma of an experience at another vet. We saw the sign up for “first kitten check-up free” and decided to give it a go. Trauma? What trauma? We were taken care of in the best way, encouraged to call if we had any questions. Since then one of our kittens has needed an operation and the support along the way has just been above and beyond. I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you guys so much!

James Taylor is our vet who is so knowledgeable, helpful and caring. Our cat has a multitude of issues (poorly diagnosed/managed at other local vets) and we feel very blessed to have his thorough approach and caring nature in dealing with the complex health issues our cat is presenting with. Whilst our cat will not get better, we are managing her condition. James keeps us informed, explains the associated costs well at all times and treatment/palliative options. I would not hesitate in recommending James and so grateful our friends recommended this clinic to us. Thank you James and team!

Hope this place is better with pets than they are with people. My wife had an appointment with dentist above them and mistakenly parked in this vet’s parking space. Came out to find a note stuck under the passenger wiper telling her not to park in their spot, fair call. Not the most confident driver at the best of times she wanted to get home quick as it was a stormy morning. Imagine the terror when she was caught up in torrential rain on the M1 freeway and wipers came on and there was zero visibility on the driver side. Thankfully she managed to safely pull off the freeway, and found her wiper blade removed. This is a dangerous practice which could have resulted in dire consequences. I have asked owner Elaine to tell her perpetrator husband to contact me to which have been ignored. I have said this is absolutely not a monetary issue but to see what they are going to do differently as this could have caused serious accident to anyone. Your refusal to return my call suggest to me wiper blade was removed on purpose to send a message. Please stop this dangerous behavior before someone gets hurt.

Helpful Reviewwith your wife s predicament that same day . You mentioned that day that the wiper did not work well on the freeway and she had to stop the car to adjust the wiper . The tiny note ( sized about 4 by cm) was placed under the windscreen wiper The reason why there was no further calls was because we realised we could not tell you what you wanted to hear . Small note was placed under the wiper and no one removed anything That day, all of our 6 car parks were taken and 3 of the car parks were taken by non Vet clients. An elderly client had to park on the street 40 m away and she damaged her back carrying her cat in a carry cage .We also pay $170 per month for each car park for our clients .

The staff are always friendly and they truly care for our fur babies. The facilities are first rate.

I would just like to say that throughout the 19 years that I have been taking my pets to this Veterinary Clinic – there has never been a need to question the medical care and attention that they have received.
I can assure you, that all my pets have only every received the upmost medical care, treated with love, kindness, compassion and respect from all the members of this highly skill veterinary team.
In turn the team have always provided me with up to date progress on the respective pets condition.
The wellbeing and care of my pets that have gone to this Clinic
– Gussy, Thomas, Elvis and Miss Gracie is and has always been a very important priority to the team in this Veterinary Clinic.
I wouldn’t trust my pets to anyone else and highly recommend Elaine Ong and her caring team.

Dr Elaine Ong and her team is very reliable, friendly and caring for the little ones. My cat Milkis got extremely sick back in August, probably because he ate something poisonous, which led to immediate kidney failure. He was dehydrated and in an extremely dangerous condition at the time. I took him to the vet quite late on Friday, but Dr Elaine stayed late, got him tested and took prompt actions in a extremely professional way. During the weekend, I got update from the vet several times a day with photos and I was so glad whenever I heard that he was eating well (both dry and wet food were provided at all time) and being a good boy. After two days’ hard working, thanks for Dr. Elaine, Dr. Meredith and everyone, his condition finally got stabilised. Now, he is the playful, healthy and cutie boy again. Highly recommend this professional team with love and care! Wish all a happy and safe new year! (Here is the Milky who loves you all).

I was a first time customer at the Dental practice on 4 Dec 2020 and in a rush misread the parking sign and parked in the assigned ‘Vet parking’. Nonetheless, the dental practice similarly has assigned parking in the same underground carpark. Upon returning to my car after treatment there two stickers on my windshield with one saying ‘vet parking’ on a practice sticker and the other simply stuck hard onto my cars windshield saying absolutely nothing because either a) out of pure vindictiveness and pettiness or b) as the employees of the practice are illiterate and did not quite know how to write. I understand issuing me with a fine and/or placing a note on my car so I don’t make the same error again but leaving sticker(s) on the windshield which any reasonable person with a half functioning brain would know would cause grief getting it off and leave sticky residue was not only the unauthorised handling of another’s property but the winner of Petty Vet Practice 2020. Congratulations on your new found title and I award you five stars out of five for your display of professionalism. If you run your practice in a similar manner to the above mentioned petty act, I’m sure you must have have a long way to go in the service department. Further, to the receptionist at your practice who replied back with ‘you do that sister’ (in front of clients at the practice) when I made it clear to her that if there was damage to my vehicle in any way I am entitled to escalate this matter, I would like to reiterate that a) I am not her sister and b) someone genetically related to me has more than three functioning brain cells to not make a comment of that sort in a professional setting during working hours whilst wearing a work uniform in front of other clients. Once again, five stars out of five for sheer unprofessionalism and pettiness. Please try not to treat the animals who are unfortunate enough to be bought into your practice in the same manner you treat the general public and/or their property in the same vicinity as your Vet hospital.

My 12 year old Maltese Shih Tzu recently had surgery to have a benign tumour removed from under his chin and several teeth extracted. Dr James Taylor was informative and patient during consultations, transparent about pricing for both procedures and very gentle with my little boy. Fantastic modern vet clinic with a convenient underground carpark and lift. We transferred here for peace of mind from another vet further away and the clinic was very helpful with getting our records together. We found Dr James very straightforward and honest which helps a lot as some vets try to upsell a lot.

They are a great group of veterinary doctors and nurses. We have seen Dr Elaine Ong for the past 20 years, but more recently we have seen Dr James Torode and Dr James Taylor. They have all been very thorough and extremely loving towards our dogs. Our pets have had a few hospitalisations and it is reassuring to know that they have not only been medically well cared for but also lovingly looked after. I highly recommend them!!

We have used ‘Balwyn central vet’ since approximately 2000 as all of their staff are extremely compassionate and will go to extra lengths to make sure your family member is taken care of. Dr Elaine and Dr James Taylor have been exceptional with all of our pets always going above and beyond to ensure the best for our pets, after appointments always checking in regularly to see how everything is going, very comforting.
Each doctor truely sharing a special bond with animals and we would not put our pets in the hands of anybody else, would not recommend anybody else.

The service is great but they do not tell you how much they are going to charge you before they perform the service. For example I asked why do you think my dog is losing hair on the top of his nose, then straight away the vet scraps the hair and skin to check. My dog had an ear infection so I took him to the vet, but did not expect to pay $322 after the consultation, however I must admit the vet was very professional and cared about my dog. I cannot afford to go to see this clinic so I will take my dog elsewhere. They charge $78 for a consultation where as other vets in the eastern suburbs charge between $65 and $70 so definitely worth shopping around. As I am a stay at home mum it’s worth ringing around to inquire the costs. I love my dog but I just cannot afford to go to this clinic next time.

I have been attending this practice for over 25 years and have always been very impressed with the professionalism, care and concern all the vets and ancillary staff have for my pets and also my family. Elaine Ong is the most compassionate person I have met, and her team are also second to none.

I have had two border collies and two cats under the care of this practice and I have no hesitation recommending them.
The staff have also been caring and empathetic on both occasions I had to put my pets down.
