    Don’t know what all the hype is. My first visit to this place and I expected a five star premise with staff service to match. Thoroughly disappointed in the place especially as the staff were so unwelcoming and dismissive – they could not have cared I bothered to attend their business. Topping my experience was my poor little dog came out with hair hacked off that was not wanted in fact with this breed should not have been done in the way it was. They then had a snide dig at me about my dog being fussy. What they don’t tell you is that they have about 6 people cutting al types and sizes of dog in one room – so very distracting and unsettling for a new dog to this establishment. No empathy or compassion for the poor dog. Maybe I needed to bring my dog in an unconscious state. Consequently, I will not be going back or recommending this place to anyone. Save yourself and your dog the trauma. I highly recommend staff do a course in communication and PR. Now having read other reviews I am sure to warrant the abuse and vitriol from the owner like everyone who is not happy with the place. Maybe take it as constructive criticism to actually improve your business rather than find excuses.

    The dogs love the wash and dry. I do not love the 45 minutes to one hour wait after my appointment time. Why bother with an appointment if you’re left sitting outside for an hour.
    Last few times waiting this long flares my disability so I’ll be going somewhere else with better appointment keeping ability.
    Today I was kept waiting far too long with not enough communication as to why the wait or how long. Just “in a minute” which is very unhelpful.
    Including journey you’ve wasted an hour and a half of my time today.
    Sad to be looking for and going to a new grooming parlour.

      This morning you changed your appointment time from 1o:30am to 11:30am and then arrived at 12 and wanted to wait when we were booked out at this time. We asked for you to wait until a staff member was available and then we could not find you. You left without letting us know.

    I have been bringing Toby here since he was a puppy. For the most part, the grooming has been good. Some groomers alot better than others. Lately though I have been very disappointed. I have always reiterated that Toby has very sensitive skin, prone to ear and skin infections. I was devastated when I received him back from boarding kennels in a filthy state. I washed him myself first. He still had matting around his ears and tail but no serious matting elsewhere as I had brushed him myself. I fully explained to the staff that I understand his tail would need to be clipped short and I expected his ears would need attention also. But requested not to take him too short elsewhere due to his skin concerns.
    I received him back clipped almost to the skin!!! He’s has 2 serious abrasions on his bottom area which have now scabbed and he’s been itching and uncomfortable all over. I’m sorry to say that for $150 I can’t justify to use Dogoverboard anymore. This has been coming for a while. He has also been getting ear infections after most washes and I’ve had to request they be more careful with his ears. I’m so disappointed as he has loved going there in the past but the prices they are charging compared to the overall treatment is not justifiable.

    I have taken Toby here for 10 years plus. You are absolutely lying here now and I’m livid. He has never been a difficult dog to groom neither has he had constant skin infections because I take good care of his diet and have always had regular grooming done. This is the first time he has ever been matted and to say any different is purely slanderous on your part. His skin is totally fine when his hair is left a bit longer as it protects his skin. The problems he’s had is usually after grooming from your business. No, he has not been to you often in the last 8 months because of all the above. I have had him done elsewhere. You cancelled the appt prior to him going into kennels due to staff with Covid. Still no mention by you of the abrasions you have caused Toby. I have photos so don’t deny that! Your terrible and highly rude responses to anyone who criticises your business just prove a point. End of story!!!!

      Your dog Toby is a std Groodle who should be groomed regularly at least every 2 to 3 months. He has not been groomed at Dogoverboard since August last year some 8 months ago. In that time he has also been to a boarding kennel and as you indicated was received back to you in a filthy state. You also failed to attend a grooming appointment at Dogoverboard during that period and did not notify us.
      Toby has always been brought to us with existing serious ears infections and other skin hygiene problems. Whilst you would like to blame Dogoverboard, these problems have nothing to do at all with the grooming services carried out for Toby.
      Toby was again presented to us in a matted state, not just the ears and tail as you stated, and also with his usual ear and skin problems. He normally requires a short clip to remove the matting to allow the skin to breath. As recorded in our detailed history records, it is quite common for Toby to be clipped short due to the overall matted state of his coat. This clip was the same length as previous grooming. As you are aware Toby is also a difficult dog to groom and takes a lot of care, time and patience for our groomers to groom him. We are well aware of his existing ear infections and his skin problems and have taken this into account when grooming him. These problems have been ongoing and noted in detailed entries throughout his history records.
      It seems that your focus is on pricing. Toby has been charged the same amount for his grooming since 2020. With his hygiene and health issues, his size and behaviour and the condition of coat, we believe that this charge is very reasonable.
      We wish Toby all the best in the future.

      We standby all comments in our reply as true and accurate. Your accusations that we are lying are untrue and defamatory. We keep very detailed history records on each visit to Dogoverboard. The records indicate the dog’s condition including health and coat, the dog’s behaviour, the groom processes, products used, state of delivery and the groomers’ notes. These records are kept for legal reasons as well as providing detailed history for the groomer for subsequent visits. These records are unbiased and provide a very truthful and accurate record. Our records for Toby go back to his first visit in 2011. Feedback has also been provided by the experienced groomers who have groomed your dog and have worked at Dogoverboard for longer than 2011. Yes the same groomers for over 10 years. We know your dog very well. Toby’s history is full of comments on matted coat and his long history of ear and skin problems. He has been clipped short many times in the past to remove matting. It seems that you are in denial about Toby’s grooming issues. And yes he is difficult to groom which we have worked with him over many years to improve his behaviour whilst being groomed.
      And yes, you did fail to attend a grooming appointment without giving us any notification. You rebooked and we had to postpone that appointment 1 week due to covid staff isolation. Again quite an untrue statement by you.
      We can not just sit back and allow you to air such inaccurate and untruthful comments about our grooming services particularly as we have put in a lot of care for Toby over many years. This second reply has been forced onto us to protect our reputation from your totally inaccurate and untrue statements about our care for Toby. We don’t know what has motivated your comments but you seem to be in denial about the toby’s skin and ear issues and his coat condition. None of these issues have been caused by our grooming.
      We wish Toby all the best with his new groomer.

    I recently moved to Newcastle & needed a new Groomer for my 12 y/o Shih Tzu. Dog Overboard was recommended by two people but when I read some of the reviews I was unsure about them. Then in a conversation with two separate people while out walking with Maestro they both recommended Dog Overboard. I’m glad I decided to try them. Maestro looked so good & was happy after his grooming. I’ve already booked him in for his next session.

    The girls at DogOverboard have always gone above and beyond with my cattle dog Sadie. I can never manage to bath and dry her myself but they manage to get her done with lots of love. The pool service is amazing and my girl loves playing with the other dogs when she goes for her swims

    Took my friends 3 border collies here to get groomed. The staff are absolutely amazing! So lovely and friendly. Decently priced and always really easy to deal with. The puppies coats look and smell amazing when we pick them up.

    Have been taking them here to get groomed ever since. Puppies love it here and they love the staff members. 😍

    RUDE! Do not go here!! My partner called to enquire about the Bath & Blow dry service. Asked to blow out a border collie coat and pay to use just the dryers. “David” said “ no you can’t use the dryer only you have to do a bath and a dry and it’s 4:25pm they close at 5 and there is not enough time for that and said they open at 8:30am each day… How is a dog owner who works full time supposed to use this service? I heard bad things but thought to call as my boys coat needs blowing out and would take 10 minutes can assure you I will never call again. How hard is it to be nice!!! Pet stock next door were very helpful!

    I took my dog in for a groom and was informed that the only groom that they do is to cut the fur all the way down to the skin, as I asked them why this is the case, the lady said that’s how they do it there and if not wanting to do it, I could take my pet elsewhere. They didn’t give any reasons for why they wanted to do it in the way that she suggested and the reasons behind it. I saw a post saying that they informed me why they wanted to do it. I think too much of business makes some people arrogant and maybe they dont need new business. I got my pet groomed at a very professional dog groomer and will never go to Dog Overboard again. 0 Stars for the service provided.

    If you love your dog this is the last place you would take her for grooming. The staff are arrogant and not helpful. If you try to talk to them they cut you off midway and leave you hanging. This is the worst that I have experienced in Newcastle. Never again.

    If I could give this business a zero star I would but that’s not an option on Google so here is my zero star review to a business who treats their staff like garbage, is cruel to clients dogs and when a dog has a horrible haircut takes no responsibility. I am writing this on behalf of people I know who have had horrible experiences but you have made them feel so low and miserable that how funny you have no negative reviews on here. Anyone reading this do not take your animal here or you will regret it. If you love your pet go elsewhere and save your money.

    We will not be using this business again.

    We have been using Dog Overboard over the last 18-months and the service has been declining over that period.

    We repeatedly ask for our Labradoodle to be cut a certain way and the groomers use the reasoning of matting to shave our dog back to the skin.

    In the past, we accepted this because there was matting but this time we had only used the service several weeks before ensuring no matting was present. This was even confirmed with the groomer who appeared to assess our dog. (unfortunately, this wasn’t even the person who cut him so the assessment was quite pointless).

    Beyond being shaved to the skin, our Labradoodle was left with flat-top, puffy ears and a shaved nose.

    When we called the business to express our disappointment, the staff argued as to why they did what they did, even though one of the team said he wasn’t matted.

    We then requested a call back in the hope of any form of acknowledgment from management.

    …We didn’t hear back.

    Numerous times the staff did not listen to my requests. They cut my dog’s leg hair and beard hair when requested not to, just because there were a few knots. The staff were not friendly when taking on my requests. It felt like my dog was just a number and they did not cater to the individual needs and requirements when cutting a miniture schnauzer. I have taken my business elsewhere.

    We have been taking Stevie, our 2 year old Mini Foxie, to Dogoverboard for over 18 months now for regular baths, nail trims and the occasional daycare. She absolutely loves Dogoverboard, and gets so excited when we arrive.

    Most recently, she needed a knee reconstruction on her back leg, and with advice from our vet we started her on hydrotherapy through Dogoverboard. Our vet told us that Stevie’s other back leg would likely need surgery, however after 3-4 hydrotherapy treatments, combined with regular walks and exercise, she no longer needs to have surgery and has fully recovered and back to her normal, playful self.

    Thanks to Cassie and the entire Dogoverboard team. You make Stevie (and us) feel so welcome and we always know she is being cared for and looked after!

    There was zero care given to the individual needs of my pup. I showed a photo of my Havanese dog’s short haircut and I picked him up with a generic shave, nothing like the photo the girl assured me she could do, his face was all chopped off and there was obviously NO attention given to his breed, any styling or the reference photo. When I picked him up the counter girl gave me no info, barely looked me in the eye and said “that’s $100 thanks” I asked how he was and she just shrugged her shoulders. Def will not be going back. I nearly cried when I saw him 🙁 I don’t think they even knew what breed my dog was. When I got home my partner said “OMG it’s WAY better when I do it myself” So sad we put him though this (oh and the rope collar!) paid $100 and then just had to fix it ourselves anyway. Don’t be fooled by all of their “awards” they don’t care for your dogs individual needs at all when they are running a generic production line.

    There has been a particularly negative response from the family on account of the grooming done with our little Cavoodle, Benjy.

    On Monday morning, I arrived at Dog Overboard, checked in, and upon waiting shortly for an attendant, I was asked ‘what would be like done today?’ My response was that we would like our 8 month old Cavoodle to maintain his shagginess as much as was healthily possible. I was abruptly told: “yeah, that won’t be happening today.”

    We were advised that there was extensive matting of his fur, which, to an extent, was fair enough, and as such that would make the job difficult. I responded that we were all too aware of the matting, which was why we were getting groomed, however our understanding at least to that point was that some fur would be salvageable. No further discussion was entered into, and we were advised to return “around 1-ish” to pick up our puppy.

    Upon returning at about 1:10 pm, we were advised that our puppy was not yet ready. This was a second annoyance for me, as I was on my lunch break, and a courtesy call would have been preferred. We were asked to wait a further 20 minutes.

    Upon receiving back our near clean -shaven dog at 1:30pm, with only some fur left on his ears and tail, myself and my step-daughter did not in fact believe that we had been given the correct dog. We thought they had given us the cat out of the episode of Friends when Rachel gets a Cat that looks like a large city rat. Benjy is now unrecognisable.

    There were multiple instances where better communicated customer service could have avoided the intense disappointment that the whole family received upon seeing our previously bright, bubbly, and fluffy pet, now in his sleek, shaven state. No communication was had with us about what to expect, nor what the process would be, and we are yet to be told that the extreme nature of the close-shaven grooming was in fact necessary. It is now obviously too late to make any difference.

    Ultimately, it was the abrupt nature of communication, and the lack thereof around the entire experience, that has left a bitter aftertaste from our experience. From a functional perspective, we maintain that our understanding is the extreme nature of the hair removal, which we did not want, was not entirely essential.

    Our dogs are more than just accessories. They are part of our family, and their personalities form a large part of that membership. Benjy’s appearance was as much a part of that personality, and thus his membership, as it did form part of his personality. A wholly disappointing experience all round.

    We arrived to pick up our dog from a groom at the time instructed, and we still had to wait an additional 40 mins for them to finish. Our dog’s groom was rushed and it took us a couple of months of visiting another groomer to get our nervous dog comfortable being groomed under his tail again.

    I would never return with my dog. I was there to follow up hydrotherapy treatment but was forced out of the hydrotherapy pool area by dogs overboard letting their day care dogs in the area. My 5.5kg PRT puppy was no match to the 35kg + dogs they put in the hydrotherapy area when I was trying to give my puppy prescribed physiotherapy treatment. This resulted in my puppy being terrified and me tripping over dogs herding us when we were trying to leave the area. To make things more difficult, I suffer from limited mobility as I have rheumatoid arthritis I am struggling to get under control. Now my only option is to travel to the Central Coast to provide hydrotherapy treatment for my puppy.

    We absolutely love our weekly sessions with dogoverboard.

    We have been using there services for over 12 months now.

    We started with puppy preschool – which was very informative.

    We have since done weekly doggy daycare

    Followed by a bath and blow dry for our pup!!

    The girls are absolutely lovely. They are so welcoming and understanding about my dogs fur and appearance.

    I can not praise the staff at Dogoverboard enough ! I have been taking my puppy since 8weeks old, to puppy crèche . This has given her the opportunity to socialise and interact with other puppies. Because of this, my puppy has become a social and gorgeous friendly dog. The staff are extremely friendly and very supportive especially on her first day. ( more for me then my puppy 🤣) a shout out to Cass and Penelope for being my puppy’s best friend, helping me with tips and giving me updates on her progress. I never feel anxious or worried as my puppy is with some lovely professional people!

    Today we called Dogoverboard to ask for prices and appointments for our German Shepherd. The staff were friendly and very helpful and they arranged an appointment for 12 o’clock the same day. Within an hour we were able to collect our dog all washed, dried, toe nails perfectly trimmed and ears cleaned. Well done, brilliant service. The staff were professional and listened to our concerns with her timidness and being around other dogs. The staff re-assured us and made our dog and us feel very comfortable.

    UPDATE *** The first time I hear from the management (below) & they pretend this didn’t happen. I can provide the emails I sent, messenger message & veterinary report & bill if proof is needed. I am not making this up *** I took my 6 month old puppy for her very first groom and she emerged with a severe limp. I had to take her to the vet. Thankfully it was nothing serious but it took her days to recover. She was also so sleepy the vet asked if she had been sedated. I sent 2 emails and a facebook message to Dog Overboard and received no response. Via word of mouth I have since heard other horrors stories, including a puppy with a dislocated shoulder. If I had received a response and an apology it would have made all the difference. Would not recommend.

    Dogoverboard offers mediocre grooming at an inflated price. The communication with clients and between staff is poor. Much better value and professional result nearby at the Dog House. One visit to Dogoverboard is more than enough.

    We take our dog Mia to daycare here 5 days a week. The staff are phenomenal! They genuinely care about every individual dog that walks through the door. Not only do they take amazing care of all the dogs in daycare but they also offer great grooming options. Special thanks to Cassie for always taking amazing care of our girl Mia. This place is a rare find.

    I have been going to Dogoverboard for years. I own 2 dogs and every time they get a wash and groom they look amazing! When they are there I never stress because I know they are in great hands. I highly recommend Dogoverboard not only for their bathing and grooming but also for there puppy preschool. My babies are perfect. Many thanks to Dogoverboard

    I sent my dog here 2 days a week for just over a month and was not impressed, I found the dog day care at Gateshead way better! It has massive yards to run around in.
    At dog overboard dogs are kept in the small pool area which has no grass, I thought they might walk the dogs to get them out. Nope.
    Also me dog was ALWAYS busting to go to the toilet when we picked him up, he knows not to go inside he needs grass or somewhere outside. Shows they don’t leave the small enclosed area
    My dog would always come home with marks and scratches and sometimes BITE marks! They obviously aren’t watching the dogs enough if they are letting other dogs attack mine. As soon as this happened I started seeking other day cares.
    We spent time with him in the pool one day and he had a rash all over his body… not sure how clean the pool is.
    I changed doggy day cares as soon as possible
    The ladies were rough with him also, and would get quite angry at him if he was too excited when we picked him up… OF COURSE he’s going to be excited when we pick him up! Especially when you clearly don’t treat the dogs right by keeping them enclosed in the small pool area all day?!
    Don’t worry we will take our dog and money elsewhere.
    Have told all my friends, family and anyone I know who has a dog to avoid this place.
    Would not recommend this place to anyone who values their dogs Heath and well-being

      Your review was made a couple of hours after your dog was banned from attending day care. The comments are totally untrue, malicious and vindictive and are the direct result of us banning your dog.
      We very rarely have to ban dogs as we work with dogs to settle and enjoy their day and try to correct any antisocial problems. Even though we spent a considerable amount of time with Maverick at no cost to you, we had to, in the end, ban him due to continual barking and very robust behaviour with other dogs. He is inclined to play very roughly with other dogs and is incredibility noisy. We have given you feedback that he is a very noisy and a robust dog that requires one on one training.
      We had received no complaints or concerns from you about day care or treatment of your dog. Exactly the opposite, we have received regular feedback “how much Maverick loves it and how excited he is coming.” When we informed Luke that unfortunately we have assessed Maverick as unsuitable for day care due to his continual loud barking, he agreed that he is getting very vocal and worse at home too.
      Between day care days you have even brought your dog into Dogoverboard for swimming exercise. So you were comfortable with our facilities and the very large indoor pool area.
      We have very strict protocols and schedules for safely taking dogs outside for breaks and toileting. The schedules are documented for every day care dog. Maverick was taken outside for walks on the grass 4 times a day on a double leash. He was not in the large pool area all day; he was also in other day care areas. Your dog has never been injured or poorly treated by our staff. There were no bite marks on your dog when picked up. These comments are slanderous.
      All areas at Dogoverboard are covered by video surveillance, and there is no evidence that Maverick was treated poorly or suffered any form of injury. We do have a number of videos showing Maverick enjoying and interacting with other dogs in the large pool area.
      All dogs are happy to see their owner when being picked up. Maverick was always extremely excited and our staff used natural corrections on leash to prevent injury and excessive pulling.
      It is disappointing that you took this approach to criticise not based on truth and actual facts.

    Can’t explain how good you guys are .definitely iam not going anywhere else for my dog grooming .You guys are awesome and passionate in what you doing .

    I went to Dog house Newcastle and they ruined my poms hair and left him with no shape, didn’t trimmed his nails and not even done hygiene clean and charged me full grooming price.

    i went to Dogoverboard straight from there and they did a great job with lots of love and passion for the dogs. Great team and best groomers in Newcastle .
