The teaching works and the staff are great, but I couldn’t get away from the feeling that they wanted my money more than they wanted to train my dog. They charge per class, but they will have you and your pup practise the same skills for weeks and weeks before they let you move on to the next thing, with the more useful skills like recall being gatekept until the end of the course, which would be hundreds of dollars in. They could not provide a good reason for this. Other schools took into consideration the things I prioritised in training and helped me work towards those. I can attest that their training style works, but unless you can afford private classes so you can skip the first half of the course, I cannot recommend Serenity Canine Academy.

      Hi Werner,

Firstly, thank you for taking your time to review our service.

Our records do not show a Werner Herzfrog having attended our weekly classes or private lessons. Are you sure that it was our school that you attended and could you please elaborate on which course you attended – weekly classes/private lessons/puppy school etc?
Regardless, we’d still like to address your feedback.

In relation to your claim that we “gatekept” the recall exercise until the end of the course and having to do exercises “for weeks and weeks.” We do not “gate keep” exercises and are very transparent with every customer who enquires about our services and/or attends our free no obligation information session in explaining how we structure our classes and why.

From the very outset of any customer’s journey with Serenity everything we do within our classes (and the at home practice we recommend) is teaching you to learn how to read your dog and help them to learn to listen and pay attention to you using ‘everyday’ as well as new scenarios and real life distractions – in a safe and controlled environment.
Practicing and refining your skills as well as being able to comfortably practice fundamental exercises is all part of setting the foundations of a strong relationship with your dog leading towards what you (and most of our customers) wish to achieve – which is having a dog that actively listens and pays attention to you under real life distraction. We want to set you and your dogs up for success, and this does need some groundwork. For example if a dog is struggling to pay attention to their owner when on lead within their home environment or in class, it is too soon and potentially unsafe to expect the dog to recall when in an off-lead high distraction scenario. We wish to set our customer and their dogs up for success, which requires foundations to be taught first as well as listening and manners skills being refined both on and off-lead within the safety of the home environment.

From the very first day we are empowering our customers with the skills needed to effectively teach a reliable recall.

We would like to address your other claim, which we find very insulting that we are more interested in your money than training your dog. Of utmost importance the welfare and wellbeing of our customers dogs is always at the forefront of everything we do.

Serenity Canine Academy are passionate in assisting our customers so that they feel empowered to train their dogs. We are also confident in the proven success of our training method which we will not compromise so that we can ‘take someone’s money’ and deliver an inferior product by teaching an exercise at an inappropriate time. Again, this is why we are very transparent before a customer commits to us in answering any questions including those about our class structures.

We always encourage our customers to talk to us before/after class or contact in between sessions if they have any questions or need extra help with a particular exercise and we ensure we have trainers ready for pre-class assistance at no additional cost. Our trainers are extremely passionate about helping our customers and their dogs and having their integrity called in to question is a claim which we take very seriously.

We would appreciate if you can advise whether you made any attempt to speak with any of our trainers about your questions and concerns, as we do strive to maintain a culture where two way conversation is not only welcomed but encouraged and many of our customers enjoy arriving early to chat with our trainers about their dogs.

We always welcome any feedback including constructive feedback and improvement opportunities, provided it is factual. Please feel free to contact us to discuss further and clear up any misunderstanding.

Wishing you and your dog all the best with your training journey.

Such lovely people! Sunny and Frans are the owners and they are the most caring and diligent people!

And their trainers are all brilliant! Amanda and Jess are the best and there every week. They speak from deep knowledge and personal experience with their own dogs which you can relate to, and will persevere patiently even when you struggle with the basics! It’s humbling some times to see them take the lead and show you just what your dog can do!

They do pack walks some times which are good fun. And they will even help work with reactive dogs if you and your family are committed to the training. Have seen some real turn arounds including our dog, at one point we were wearing long pants and long sleeves and considering gloves to train him! Now he’s happily playing with other dogs at doggy day care!

Can’t recommend them highly enough! If you come by we are there almost every weekend!

I love the philosophy of this place.
Rather than learning to command your dog and tell them what to do. They teach you to teach your dog to make the right choices even when you aren’t around.
They start with a home lesson so they can see what the dog is really like, not what they’re like at a strange place with lots of people and dogs. And I appreciate that.
