The Blackburn Vet has been looking after the pets in your area since 1993. Our highly qualified team includes Dr Mark, Dr Gajen, and Dr Alison, their special interest and expertise are in small animal medicine, general surgeries, dentistry, and more.
As well as providing veterinary care for your beloved pets, we also have cat boarding facilities to accommodate your feline friends while you are away, and DIY dog hydrobath facility.
We enjoy educating our community and often host information nights and wildlife experience days. We also welcome schools to visit our clinic for a tour and learn about what we do here at The Blackburn Vet. Our team also visits Kindergardens and primary schools to offer our fun Pets and People Education Program (PetPEP) which educates students about responsible pet ownership.
The Blackburn Vet will ease your concerns with our expertise and compassion. We love meeting the members of our community and value that special one on one relationship with the pets and their owners. Over the years we have created many friends and have been lucky enough to witness families and their pets grow and develop together.

When I took Cherry to the vet during my pregnancy, the staff helped me get her in my car and helped me carry her canned food to my car, without me even asking. They were sincere, loving and candid when Cherry was close to the end. We highly recommend this clinic, all the staff are excellent and they are the best team you can choose to look after your pets.

DO NOT GO TO THIS VET
We attended this vet 3 times, and all 3 times our dogs were misdiagnosed. The first couple of times we went we were told that the issue was not serious and told that the dog had worms, we wormed them with a special overpriced treatment and the dogs recovered, however we found out later they did not have worms. The third time we went we were very suspicious about the vet and were taking everything with a grain of salt. Dog presented with repeated vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy we were very worried about her and took her to the emergency vet (who could not run tests cheap and were confident that waiting would not harm the dog but if the symptoms were still occurring after 24 hours we needed to take her to our regular vet) and followed up with a regular appointment at the blackburn vet when the symptoms re-occured 2 days later.. Again we were told it was worms and given overpriced medication.
there was no improvement at all in the dog. Eventually we got very lucky and she vomited up a huge hairball type mess.. 20 minutes later she was fine. Our dog absolutely could have died to this if she didn’t manage to bring it up. We have since changed vet.

I have been taking out animals here for the past 6 plus years. After the last encounter I will never take our dog back there. Out Labrador has had a major operation in the past 28montgs that this vet happily charged us $5000 plus for. Last Friday at 7.15pm we phoned the clinic advising he was not eating and we were worried about him. Took my cat there after sudden loss of condition. Heart rate was abnormally high at vet check. Long story short, died just weeks later aged 10 from missed thyroid condition leading to heart attack. A simple blood test would have detected this highly treatable condition but was not suggested. Instead was told needed dental surgery. Extremely upset to say the least. Emailed clinic about experience and got no response. Care factor zero.

I took my dog for an annual vaccine and checkup here recently. I was greeted by a young Asian female vet. She started off trying to check my dog’s teeth and as soon as he growled she jumped back and seemed very scared. I told her he gets nervous and asked her to bring a mussel, but she suggested to bring him to the back and do the vaccine with I agreed. 10 minutes later, my dog came back out and I was told it’s all done and I can leave. Hang on, what about the check up? She also responded with, “ it’s done“, so I asked what did you do, she couldn’t respond and said I should consider a dental clean for my dog as there was tartar build up and purchase some sedation medicine to give to my dog prior to his next consultation.
Helpful ReviewI was very unhappy with the service provided or I should say no service provided. I was not given information as to what checkup was done, and even when I asked, she could not tell me what she did, couldn’t even lie. The vet did not try to make the dog feel a little bit comfortable before consultation; eg. give him a treat or a pat, no nothing. I felt like I just went and paid $250 for nothing. The most irresponsible vet ever, just care about making money.
I definitely DO NOT recommend taking your dog here.

Cannot recommend The Blackburn Vet enough! The staff always go above and beyond to make sure myself and my dog, Chewy, have a great experience. Both vets and nurses are very knowledgeable and professional, and always take the time to address any questions or concerns I may have. I’m confident my dog is getting the best possible care when I take her into the clinic.
Helpful ReviewAt my recent visit, due to covid restrictions, Chewy was collected from my car in the parking lot. She is usually quiet sooky when leaving me, however she happily jumped out and went with the nurse, as she feels so comfortable with them. I feel confident leaving my dog in the staffs care as I know how well looked after Chewy is every time she visits.

After having been to 4 different Vets in Melbourne, I cannot recommend Blackburn Vets enough!
Helpful Review 1Service is fantastic both on front desk and the Vet. Had to get our 13 year old Beagle’s teeth done, with the Membership Plan ended up being a huge save. Cost transparency, with a thorough email pre & post-surgery explaining what to watch out for/prep. Got follow up call/appointments to ensure well-being. Dr. Andrea was a great communicator, really taking time to explain everything clearly!

Very lovely staff, good at exuding calm and getting things done quickly while keeping my cat at ease. The reminder text service for annual check ups is also really helpful to me as I struggle personally with organisation, but reminder services help me feel that the vet is working with my needs as a client and as a team to look out for the health of my fuzzy loved one.

Dr.Sebastian is patient, gentle, friendly, and professional. He asked a bunch of questions about the history of our kitten and did a thorough health check for her. Took our two (already wormed) kittens there for vaccinations and the vet knowingly gave them extra worming tablets without permission and charged for them.
They also insist on their brand of cat food so be prepared for that.

We have been bringing our pet rabbit to the Blackburn for a few years, and have always found the staff to be very friendly and professional. Our rabbit recently had to have a procedure done which is always a nerve wracking experience, but Dr Andrew and his team did everything possible to help us feel secure in the knowledge that our pet was getting the best possible care, and the procedure went as smoothly as I could have hoped for.
They sent us photos of our bunny as soon as the procedure was completed, to reassure us that he was ok, and called us the following day to make sure everything was fine (as well as organising multiple follow up consultations).

Disgrace. Would not recommend. Advised surgery is going to cost this much and then when it came to the surgery time, vet called asking for more money and saying it’s quoted only for partial surgery which I advised the vet doctor told me it’s for the whole surgery and it’s not my fault you quoted me incorrectly, I straight away thought it was a upscale tactic to increase the price, unacceptable practise. Very unprofessional. Then told me if I joined the pet care plan of $400 I wouldn’t need to pay this much. Mate you asked me every visit to join – once is enough. Doesn’t mean we don’t say nothing doesn’t mean we are not annoyed by it. Stop trying to upsell and do what a vet does. Money making but provide jack all service. All I hear is it’s gonna cost this much and today’s visit is this much. You charge so much for doing no work. Because of this I’m taking my dog else where and 8 of my friends who take their dogs here have been informed and experienced the same and they won’t be returning until you get you processe right and do the right thing.
Do yourself a favour people, there are plenty of honest vets elsewhere don’t won’t pull your arm and leg for doing no work.
