Had a procedure done on Tuesday with a very difficult patient named Dex. Dr Swanepoel showed patience and we were able to come up with a solution. Very friendly and professional staff.

My dog and I were both injured in an attack and the care we received from the lovely staff at Challenger was amazing. I was in shock so whilst my dog was being assessed one of the nurses tended to my wounds and made sure I was okay until my husband was able to get there. My dog is quite anxious normally and they are always very patient and understanding compared to other vet experiences I’ve had. Keep up the great work xo

I’d always highly recommend this vet however took my dog after being attacked (admittedly he only had few puncture wounds and they did get me in straight away) but they charged me 90$ to identify the wounds and that’s it apparently teeth marks are only superficial wounds and didn’t warrant a clean?!! Now the wounds are looking infected I’m reluctant to even go back

I took my cat in to find out why he is not gaining weight even though he eats a lot.
Helpful ReviewIn my previous appointment the plan was to do an U/S. I held off to see if the antibiotics and other things helped.
Unfortunately they haven’t so i went for the U/S.
Of course they wanted to do bloods but i said after the scan to see if there is anything sinister.
There was nothing so they proceeded to do that saying they should find something.
After that and $1100 for just a scan and bloods which is so expensive they said to put him on a drip with potassium.
$1400 later and no diagnosis for a scan, bloods and a drip with potassium.
I worked in a vet previously and the costs are so high compared to then.
I have also worked in standard medicine and it isn’t that high in cost especially when everything is done in house.
I called the veterinary board and they said every place can charge as they like. They are meant to care but they use your love for your animal to gain money. Many people do not take sick animals to the vet because of the cost.
Daylight robbery, animals can’t get the care they need because it is so overpriced.
Vets and nurses are nice but the fees charged are just too much. When you’re already worried about your pet, the bank account is the last thing you need to think about as well. It isn’t only this practice but seems to be happening everywhere. Not sure how you’re expected to carry such high costs.

If a pet comes into us and is unwell, we will offer a range of diagnostics so we can try to find out why the pet is unwell. Unfortunately, not all diagnostics will give us a direct answer, but they do rule out other potential pathology which in itself is an important diagnostic tool. To gain further information we would have needed to proceed to advanced imaging such as CT Scan or MRI at a referral centre.
We are always up front with our costs and our vets ensure they keep owners up to date with their pet’s progress, and request permission from the owner before running any tests.
Again, we are sorry we couldn’t get a satisfactory answer for you. We do always strive to provide the best service we can for both owners and pets.

My dog spent 3 nights in Challenger Vet following a bad case of pancreatitis and the standard of care from the nurses and vets was outstanding. They made sure she was kept warm and comfortable with really good pain relief for her sore and I was able to come and visit her at anytime and everyone made me feel at ease and welcome. Thanks for taking such good care of her.
