I went in, and waited for several minutes for the lady who was cleaning the floor out back to come talk to me, even acknowledge my presence. She didn’t so I left. I know that she saw me. It’s not hard to look up and say “hi, I’ll be with you in a few moments” but she didn’t.ever acknowledge me at all.

Last week my 3yo GSD and I had a terrible, albeit brief, experience at this well known groomer. My instincts were to leave as soon as I got there as one of the staff placed a slip lead around her neck and proceeded to drag my girl out of the foyer to the point where my dog was struggling to breathe. The staff member also tried to shove a treat in her face at this point, to which she of course had no interest taking as she was struggling to breathe. I had to intervene and picked her up to release the tension on the lead but the slip was on upside-down and would not release by itself. I had to put my hand under it to loosen it. In hindsight, the fact this “professional” did not know how to use a slip lead correctly and was willing to treat my dog like this in front of me, I hate to think what occurred while I was not present.

As I walked away hearing my girl crying I was feeling quite upset but reassured myself that she was in the hands of professionals. Not 20 minutes later I received a phone call to pick her up and could hear her yelping in the background on the phone.

When I arrived, she was damp and tethered with a short chain in the main grooming area and was so stressed out. I stood at the counter while 3 staff ignored me and my distressed dog. The staff member who had dragged my dog previously, eventually came out to release my dog to me. Then even had the audacity to tell me my dog was aggressive and stated “we don’t take dogs like that here”.  I was absolutely furious at this allegation and in shock at this point.

Very dissatisfied at the treatment in this business and the obvious lack of attention to individual dogs and their needs. If your dog fits a particular mould and is tolerant of being choked, go ahead and take them here!

Staff had zero understanding of how to handle a lovely gentle cat-loving, dog daycare attending well socialised GSD with ZERO aggression. I ask TopDog if you cannot cope with big dogs or GSDs, why are you booking them in?

I look forward to a response to this review from TopDog and see from the other negative reviews that there may be camera footage available. I would encourage the staff at TopDog to review this footage and reflect on how you could have treated my dog better.

My advice to future clients of this business: trust yours and your canines instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, leave. Definitely would not recommend for large breed dog owners to go here particularly for first time grooms.

I was left with the very clear impression that this business prioritises the profits to be made by rushing dogs through, rather than the care of your dog.
