Had 3 appointments at this vet with a terrible experience every time. Appointments felt rushed and like they were just after my money. Misdiagnosed an ear infection, weren’t friendly towards my pup, wanted to sedate her to give her needles which could be resolved by more care and love. Ridiculously over charged every time. Would not recommend this place for anyone who cares about their fur babies. Save your money and go to a vet that isn’t just a money grab.

Took my 8 month old puppy there who had started limping quite badly. He’s a french mastiff so quite a large puppy. Had all the check ups and X-rays that they suggested. Was told by the vet that arthroscopes were needed to both front elbows/knees. LOL. Every check up from there on both legs were always discussed. We booked the surgery there after a heart stopping quote. We bit the bullet and went through with it only to find out when we picked him up only one of his legs had been operated on. We were then told that they would never do both at the same time. We were never told the operation was for only one leg at any stage through the process. We were always of the understanding it was for both. This was not a cheap op either. To do both we would be looking at 10k…I feel the lady at reception who had to deal with me but the communication was very poor as to what exactly was being done and should have specified clearly what was happening. I reluctantly paid half the bill as this was their error and I shouldn’t be out of pocket this much coin. Now we have been told that our pup will not be seen there for any post op check up and X-rays until the balance is paid. The girls on the front were lovely however more clearer and exact plans need to given to the owners to stop this from occurring again. The vet wouldn’t even come out and see us he just left the lady at the desk to deal with us. We paid the amount the lady at the front asked for and left…disappointing to say the least

Can only now bring myself to post how dreadful we were treated when we sought help for my cat who had collapsed and was barely breathing. Working in animal welfare I knew he needed to be euthanized quickly to end his suffering.
We were met by a vet nurse who screamed at us to go to an emergancy vet. Then snatched my dying cat from my arms. We told her we wished to stay with him while.he passed…..20 minutes later a vet eventually came to us and said he had died. We did not hold him as requested. No compassion, nothing. Should they dispose of his body?
    OMG no!
So then the nurse literally dumped his limp body on the table in front of us and left. We scooped him up and he has been cremated.
Unfortunately our own was a20 minute drive away hence our visit to the closet vet on duty that evening. Never again.

I had to go here due to my regular vet being booked out, and the experience was just okay. The Vet didn’t really give me a explanation of what was the cause of my pet’s pain and discomfort, after administering medication she just told me to come back in 3 days if it’s still an issue or sooner if it’s worse. Why I say it’s just okay is because the price is significantly higher than other vets. As well as how they had made me wait for 15 or more min inside of the examination room because they’re system wasn’t working. What was bizarre was how they got me to pay inside of the examination room and walked me out through the back. All in all, I would only recommend in an emergency provided the abundance of more affordable and professional vets in pakenham.

Way overpriced, seem to care more about the money than your pet. Will not be going back.
Have found another friendlier and way cheaper vet clinic.

I have waited a while to post this review as the loss of Rex after 14 years had a big impact on our family. We got to know David over his final year and his advice was valued but Rex was a pure bred and had a lot of problems. In the end it was awful to watch him struggling and we made the choice to put him down. I have never had to do this before and I have to say it’s surreal. You can’t prepare and it’s such a shock to the system. David, however, was extremely empathetic and gave us every other option but there was no viable alternative. We can’t yet consider another pet but if we do we would not consider another vet. The genuine affection he had with Rex and our predicament was more than you could hope for. I thank David and his team for their support and putting up with me (I tried but did not cope well). We would highly recommend the Animal Doctors to anyone with a pet.

Charged $42 for the same bottle of Chlorsig that’s $10 at the chemist. New to the area and first trip to a new vet for our dog. No issues at all with the work, professionalism or demeanour of the vet. Our dog has conjunctivitis. Charged us $42 for Chlorsig. It’s literally the same $10 bottle from the chemist. Not a special one for pets or anything, but literally the same 10ml bottle. Could have had a customer for life but definitely won’t be going back due to being ripped off on the medication. Whoever sets the pricing there should be ashamed. I don’t mean this to reflect on the quality of the vet services, I’m just insulted at the audacity to charge that much for a basic medication.

Hi Ben, Thanks for letting us know about the chlorsig issue. I have checked our software and chlorsig is still listed as a prescription medication and therefore it has attracted a prescription fee. As chlorsig is no longer a prescption medication ( which means a lot less paperwork), I will get that changed.
I apologize for the error and am happy for you to get a refund.
Thanks again for the heads up.

Took my dog in as an emergency. They made us wait. Wouldn’t let me in with him.they took all these tests. Told me they would be able to get all the results they needed, from the tests and tell me what was wrong with him. Then after we paid them hundreds of dollars the really rude nurse who was very impatient and didn’t care at all that we were upset then told us we can’t promise you the results will show anything up. So never take ur animals there they are very cold and don’t care about ur pets only about the money. Absolutely deverstating and discusted with the treatment we received or I should say didn’t.

Easter weekend nightmare. The only vet open was The Animal Doctors Pakenham so we took our cat here as he was having issues. First vet visit I constantly told the vet of the things my cat had been going through and she kept saying it was just a urinary infection. I told her he’s been peeing fine which he then proceeded to pee at the vet with no issues but the vet continued to say it was a urinary issue. So I thought okay she’s a vet she knows. Paid $235 for two types of pain medication, one which is not good for cats over the age of 9 (advice from another vet). So we took him home. Then my partner noticed the issue had gotten worse so we called the vet and took him back. She then realises OH you’re right he is having issue in the area you mentioned earlier, huh. So she finally gives him an antibiotic for what she considers to be an abscess, squeezes it a bit and lets him go home. Another $60 later. I’ll pay anything for my cat to be healthy but it’s getting to be a joke as she diagnosed him wrong the first time. Another day goes by, it’s now Easter Monday and he’s still oozing and the issue seems to be getting worse. We speak to an emergency vet as no vets are open today and they tell us to stick an Elizabethan collar on and wait until our regular vet opens which is fine. We finally get him to his regular vet at Our Vet Pakenham and we get the CORRECT diagnosis, the CORRECT explanation and a round of antibiotics that he didn’t get in our numerous visits to the animal doctors. We now have a much happier and healthier cat.
This whole ideal was horrendous and I would recommend going to another vet to make sure your pets are getting cared for correctly. Next time I’ll just pay the extra money and go to the emergency vet when all vets are closed.
The staff are SUPER nice here and the receptionist/vet nurse is super friendly and helpful but the vet I saw was no good as she doesn’t listen to what you have to say. I’m not a vet but I pay close attention to my pets and it would be nice if she could of aswell.
