Updated 10 June – Saw your recent photos. I see a lovely new feeder or bird bath. If you would like your zebra family to breed, you will need some cane nests and nesting material for them to build their own nests. BC Team

Hi Craig. We are very sorry to hear of your loss – as a bird keeper of 50 years I understand that this is a difficult time. There are many reasons as to why birds leave us but it is important to drill down so as to ascertain the specific circumstances that lead to this passing. Birds are sensitive and are creatures of habit – so even a small change such as providing different seed or changing its position, as generalised examples – can impact them adversely. Thank you Jamie for taking the time out to show your sincere appreciation in the way that we care for our livestock. Birds are living creatures, so it will be very evident in their behaviours if their physical and emotional needs are not being met. We go to enormous efforts to keep all our birdies in the best condition possible by providing a variety of good quality foods and additional supplementation, a clean environment, toys to play with (even the canaries in the aviary have toys!) and handling and play time for the hand reared and resident birds. We practice what we preach – and we do a lot of preaching in the form of practical advice – to ensure that when any bird leaves our premises that it will be cared for in the same manner. A lot of the work that is done here is about educating customers on proper bird husbandry – a happy and healthy bird is a happy customer.
