Reviewed on GoogleDecided on this spot for brunch one Sunday (4 of us, plus baby). Waitress asked another waitress to seat us – to which that person responded “I’m on my break” without acknowledging us. I let it slide – a break is her right, and her colleagues probably should know she’s on a break. It wasn’t busy at this point, so someone else managed to find us a space.
Main issue with this place – we have a dairy and egg intolerant baby and when we asked if we could have certain dishes with dairy / egg products plated separately, the waitress responded that she could but she would have to put the order in as e.g. bacon with eggs on side, spinach on side, mushrooms on the side, etc with which I clarified – I’m okay with that but will it be the same cost or all extra (+$6, +$6, etc.) and she apologised and said it would be – lucky I clarified. She went on and said she couldn’t ask the kitchen (even though their menu states that they will try their best to cater to allergies or intolerances), the head chef was sick, it’s very tense in there (? Not sure why this was shared), and “not on a Sunday”. The brekkie would have cost $35 at least if we had ordered that. So I thought I’d go for polenta chips – also served with Parmesan cheese. I was just going to go for toast with Vegemite for the bub – then realised this would be $7 for the toast and $3 for the Vegemite ($10 for toast!) So fries it was. Aioli on the side – yay. Finally something that is suitable for someone with allergies and intolerances.
We waited at least half an hour for food.
When we paid we were treated with a 20% Sunday “service” surcharge bringing our total to over $150 for barely any service, a waitress who was too afraid to make special requests, and a kitchen that is dysfunctional unless the head chef was there. Lucky they had no more matcha for my matcha latte – needed that extra $ to cover the shocking surcharge.
Overall, the coffee was good and was wanting to go for another one the day after – but wasn’t going to spend another cent at this place. Brekkie brioche burger, thick cut bacon, and burritos were all sub par (note – we were also very hungry by the time the food came around and thought it would therefore be extra delicious to our tastebuds!)
We didn’t have a good experience and didn’t feel that the staff (front and back of house) had a proper system to help them function. A brunch spot should always be expected to be busy on weekends – so you should be prepared to cater for that instead of using it as an excuse for inadequate service.

Reviewed on GoogleFood was delicious, friendly staff..but we had just started eating lunch at 2 pm and they asked if we would like coffee as they were turning the machine off and we still had full glasses of wine as well. From there we felt rushed to get out so was disappointing from that point. I realise it was a quiet day but I was really looking forward to getting out and going here😟

Reviewed on GoogleI have organised a couple of work lunches here for my team, and they have been very happy with the place. They have taken pre-orders for us and managed everything in a timely manner. Food is consistently very good quality, and we love the character of the place. After extensive testing, I can also confirm it has the finest chai on Fitzroy St!
